In a study published in Eurosurveillance, the 2015-16 flu vaccine is between 40-50% effective against the seasonal flu circulating so far in the United Kingdom. Influenza A(H1N1)pdm09, otherwise known as "swine flu" is the main virus strain in circulation, which is included in the seasonal vaccine. The results of this mid-season analysis lead the authors to conclude "that the influenza vaccine has been effective so far this season" and that the 2016-17 vaccine should continue to include a component against the influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 strain. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) previously found this vaccine to be around 60% effective.
