A study published in the American Heart Association’s journal, Circulation, found young adults and adolescents recover quickly from myocarditis after receiving an mRNA vaccine against COVID-19. The small study conducted in the US and Canada examined nearly 140 cases of suspected myocarditis at 26 healthcare centres. Of those studied more than 90% were male, and when symptoms occurred, they generally appeared within 2 days of vaccination. The most frequent symptom was chest pain. While a small number did develop heart failure, they all showed normalised heart function on follow up. According to the study, the data support the conclusion that the majority of cases in those under 21 have mild symptoms that quickly resolve.
