The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched the Strategy to Achieve Global Covid-19 Vaccination by mid-2022 to vaccinate 40% of the population of every country by the end of 2021 and 70% by mid-2022. Previously, WHO aimed to vaccinate 10% of every country by the end of September, but 56 countries, the majority in Africa and the Middle East, had missed the target. Current global vaccine production is at nearly 1.5 billion doses per month, and so from a supply perspective, there is sufficient vaccine to achieve the global targets as long as there is equitable distribution of those doses.
