WHO influenza update

The World Health Organisation (WHO) have released their latest update on influenza globally. In the Southern hemisphere, there was an increase in the detection of influenza and in some countries cases have peaked over recent weeks, however globally detections remained low.

In tropical Africa, the Caribbean countries, the tropical countries of South America, Southern Asia and the temperate zones of the northern Hemisphere, influenza activity remained low. In South Africa, activity has peaked and subsequently decreased to a low level, with influenza A (H3N2) primarily detected. Increased activity was reported in a number of Central American countries, with A (H1N1)pdm09 strain most predominant. Case detections were stable in Oceania and in South-East Asia either stable or decreasing in most reporting countries.

RSV activity was reported to be low globally, except in Australia and some countries in temperate and tropical South America.
