Vaccine Update - Vaccines marathon campaign

31 May: Authorities held a daylong vaccination “marathon” campaign on 29 May to accelerate the vaccination rates across the country and has included areas where the progress has been slow. The campaign ran at 30 vaccination centres and offered the AstraZeneca vaccine to people aged 30 and above, with no advance appointments required. Over 10,000 people were vaccinated by the end of the day.

25 May: Yesterday, the government launched a vaccination campaign for public sector personnel at the Lebanese University. The campaign applies especially for those who are working in the Civil Service Council, Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and workers in several ministries. The vaccination centres at the university are using the Pfizer/BioNTech, AstraZeneca, and Sinopharm vaccines.

The country received its 15th shipment of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine on 23 May, consisting of 46,8000 doses and bringing the total received Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines to 592,020.

9 April: A donation of 90,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine were received from China in early April. Vaccination for army personnel began yesterday in 21 military centres. Around 270,000 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine, with 92,000 people fully vaccinated.

26 March: Media reports that Lebanon will begin its vaccination with Russia's Sputnik V vaccine on 30 March, and the first shots will be given to employees of the national air carrier, Middle East Airlines.

25 March: Over 33,600 doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine has arrived in Lebanon via the COVAX Facility, and another batch of 130,000 doses is expected to arrive in early April.

15 February: Lebanon has launched its COVID-19 vaccination campaign one day after receiving the first batch of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines. Approximately 28,500 doses were received from Brussels. Health care workers and the elderly are the first group to be vaccinated. More vaccines are expected to arrive in the coming weeks with a view to vaccinating 2 million people. Nearly 3 million other vaccine doses are expected to be secured through COVAX program.

Lebanon is currently experiencing a surge in cases. It has registered about 337,000 cases with 3,961 deaths.
