Vaccine Update - Vaccine rollout resumes following receipt of supplies

Brunei // 21 September, 2021

21 September: Vaccination was delayed for several weeks due to supply constraints. Oxford/AstraZeneca and Sinopharm supplies have been received to bolster the vaccine rollout efforts. This includes doses donated by China, Japan and Australia.

Currently hundreds of contacts and cases who are in quarantine or isolation have also had to postpone first dose appointments. People are encouraged to check their vaccination appointments via the BruHealth app.

The country aims to expand vaccination to adolescents by the end of the year, after 300,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine arrive. The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine has become the default vaccine used for everyone over 18 years of age. All previously received supplies of the Moderna vaccine have been used. Additional stocks of Novavax have been ordered.

Over 400,000 doses have been administered, with over 36% of the population fully vaccinated.

20 April: At the end of March, the first shipment of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine made in South Korea arrived in the country from COVAX. This included 24,000 doses out of the initial allocation of 108,000 doses expected by the end of June.

The vaccination campaign commenced on 3 April; a vaccination centre has been set-up in each of the four districts. First priority will be given to front-liners (especially medical staff in Government and private health facilities across the country), people aged 60 years and above and students who will be studying overseas. Second priority is for teachers, daycare center staff and people with comorbidities. The third phase will include vaccination for everyone older than 18 years.
