Update 18 September: The government has now reportedly authorized the antiviral drug favipiravir to treat outpatients with mild to moderate COVID-19, under the brand name Coronavir manufactured by R-Pharm. Before now, the medication was given to patients in hospitals.
Posted June 2020: The Russian Ministry of Health has reportedly given accelerated approval for Avifavir, based on the antiviral drug favipiravir, to be given as a treatment for COVID-19 patients from 11 June. Clinical trials of Avifavir involving around 330 people began in Russia on 21 May. Favipiravir is currently only being used for COVID-19 patients within clinical trial settings in other countries.
