1 February: The first shipment of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in South Africa. It contains 1 million doses of the vaccine made by the Serum Institute of India. A further 500,000 doses are expected to arrive later in February.
25 January: The President of the country has confirmed that the first consignment of COVID-19 vaccines from Serum Institute India is likely to arrive in the country soon. According to the vaccine roll out plan, over a million frontline healthcare workers will be the first to receive the vaccine.
7 January: Media reported that South Africa has purchased 1.5 million doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. The first million doses will be delivered this month, and the remaining 500,000 will be delivered by February.
