Sinopharm Wuhan COVID-19 vaccine for 3-17-year-olds – study results and emergency use approved in China

16 September: Results from the Phase 1/2 study in children aged 3-17 years have been published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases. The study conducted in China found that the Sinopharm vaccine is safe, well tolerated and stimulated a robust immune response after two doses. Phase 3 clinical trials assessing the vaccine efficacy against COVID-19 infections are ongoing.

20 August: The Sinopharm/Wuhan inactivated COVID-19 vaccine has been granted emergency use authorisation for 3-17-year-olds (in Chinese). The company states that data from Phase 1/2 clinical trials showed good immune response and no safety issues for people aged 3 to 17 years who received two-doses of the vaccine.

The vaccine was given emergency use authorisation in adults on 25 February 2021.
