Rising influenza A infections

Niue // 13 May, 2025

13 May 2025: As of early May, Niue is still reporting influenza infections, with at least 88 confirmed cases. Over 35 individuals have required hospitalisation, with teenagers and older adults being the most affected groups. Health officials are advising the public to minimise social gatherings, wear masks, and maintain proper hygiene to help curb the spread of the virus.

16 April 2025: Since late March, there has been a significant increase in Influenza A infections, prompting health officials to issue a red alert. As of 13 April, at least 39 cases have been confirmed, with over 10 individuals requiring hospitalisation. The most affected age group is between 11 and 18 years.

Residents have been been advised to wear masks, avoid large gatherings, and follow hygiene measures. Health officials are urging the public to get vaccinated, with free flu shots available for everyone aged 3 and above.
