Rise in respiratory infections among children leads to mask mandate in schools

14 June: Health officials have issued a mandate for the use of masks in schools for people above 5 years of age. People are also advised to use masks in crowded places and on public transport. 

10 June: A spike in respiratory infections, mostly due to respiratory syncytial virus has been reported among young children across Chile. Severe illnesses and hospitalisations  have also increased. Respiratory syncytial virus is a respiratory virus which causes mild cold symptoms, however it can cause serious illness and even death among young children and infants.
