Record number of new COVID-19 cases

10 March: A record high 265,143 new COVID-19 infections were identified in Vietnam on 9 March with a 7-day average of 190,345 cases. The province of Nghe An reported the majority of the new cases with 56,192, followed by Bac Giang (33,147) and Hanoi with 31,365 new infections recorded.

28 February: The Ministry of Health announced over 94,000 new cases on 28 February. The average number of daily new cases in the last week has been 74,773. Hanoi is most affected, followed by Quang Ninh and Nghe An provinces. Omicron is circulating, and is likely to be dominant in at least Ho Chi Minh City.

The antiviral medication Molnupiravir, made by three local manufacturers, has been approved for emergency use.
