Slovenia // 27 December, 2020

A pet ferret in Celje has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. The animal was showing gastrointestinal symptoms and assessed by the veterinarian. Household members were positive for COVID-19.

Many animals are known to be susceptible to SARS-CoV-2. Pets can be infected by humans. The United States Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) has advice for people who have pets to prevent transmission. They advise "the risk of animals spreading COVID-19 to people is considered to be low. It appears that the virus that causes COVID-19 can spread from people to animals in some situations."
