The Therapeutic Goods Administration has provisionally approved the COVID-19 oral medications Paxlovid and Lagevrio. Paxlovid consists of two drugs (ritonavir and nirmatrelvir) while Lagevrio is the brand name for the medicine molnupiravir.
Both medications are for use in adults infected with COVID-19, are not needing oxygen treatment, and are at higher risk of severe disease. These prescription medications must be started as soon as possible after the diagnosis, and within 5 days of the onset of symptoms.
