The country's first cases have been detected among travellers. At least 15 people are known to have Omicron infections, including some locally acquired.
6 December: Media is reporting a cluster of locally acquired Omicron cases at the University of Windsor in Ontario. At least four people have tested positive since 1 December; they have been moved out of the Alumni Hall residence along with their close contacts.
3 December: Eleven of the 15 known infected people in Canada had a history of international travel - including a child under 12 years old diagnosed in York, Ontario today. Toronto reported their first cases today. Three people in the city were infected, two who had been in Nigeria and one who had visited Switzerland.
1 December: Further cases of Omicron infection have been detected in travellers from Nigeria, with the Government reporting six cases have been detected in total. Four cases are in Ontario province, one in Quebec and one in Alberta. Media further reports another case has been detected in British Colombia.
29 November: On 28 November, the Ministry of Health announced two cases of Omicron have been confirmed in Ottawa, Ontario province, in travellers from Nigeria. The travellers have been isolated and case and contact management is underway.
