20 October: The Bangladesh Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) has reported a total of five fatal infections of Nipah virus in 2024. The affected districts include Khulna, Manikganj, Naogaon and Shariatpur.
27 February: Health authorities have confirmed two fatal cases of Nipah Virus Infection. The first patient was a 38 year old male from Manikganj district, Dhaka who first developed symptoms 11 January 2024 and died in hospital on 28th January. The second patient was a 3 year old female from Shariatpur district, Dhaka who was admitted to hospital on 30 January. Both patients had a history of drinking date palm sap and contact tracing for both patients did not identify any additional cases.
15 February: Media source has reported another fatality in a 42-year-old man from Pabna district. He became ill after consuming date juice. No official confirmation has been issued on the case.
2 February: Media has reported that the two men from Manikganj district have died after being hospitalised. The cause for the infections is allegedly linked to the consumption of raw date juice. The infections are yet to be confirmed by authorities.
30 January: Local media has reported Nipah virus infections in Bangladesh. While health authorities have not yet issued an official confirmation, two men from the Manikganj district were reportedly hospitalised in Dhaka with symptoms consistent with Nipah virus infection.
In 2023, 14 infections were reported in Bangladesh and ten of these were fatal.
