New vaccine technology for future coronavirus outbreaks

06 May, 2024

Scientists at Cambridge have developed a new technology called ‘proactive vaccinology’ which shows promise to protect against a wide range of coronaviruses. The technology which has been tested in mice, aims to train the immune system to identify "specific regions of eight different coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-1, SARS-CoV-2, and several that are currently circulating in bats and have potential to jump to humans and cause a pandemic." Research findings have been published in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.
