Increasing mpox infections

19 November: Health authorities have reported an ongoing increase in cases from all 16 regions of the country. So far this year, 808 confirmed cases have been reported. No new fatalities have been reported.

22 October: Africa CDC has reported an increase in infections in recent weeks bringing the total, since the beginning of 2025, to more than 700 including three deaths.

1 October: In a recent update, Africa CDC has reported additional mpox infections. So far this year, over 500 cases have been confirmed, including two fatalities.

8 September: Additional cases have been reported by Africa CDC. So far this year, a total of 467 cases have been confirmed.

19 August: Health authorities have reported dozens of new infections, with the total this year rising to over 400 cases. Two patients are currently undergoing treatment.

11 August: In a recent update, Ghana has reported 46 laboratory-confirmed mpox infections from all 16 regions. So far this year, a total of 328 cases have been confirmed, including one fatality.

28 July: Health authorities have reported the country's first mpox death. Additional infections have also been recorded, bringing the total of cases to 257.

22 July: Another 48 people have been confirmed infected with mpox. To date, at least 218 cases have been identified in the country this year.

11 July: Health authorities have reported additional mpox infections bringing the total to 170 confirmed cases.

20 June: Authorities continue to report additional cases. There have been at least 748 cases of which 117 are laboratory confirmed cases for 2025. Ghana's Western Region accounts for 71% of the confirmed infections. No fatalities have been reported.

10 June: Health officials have confirmed 34 new mpox infections, bringing the total number of cases in 2025 to 79. Four of the individuals have been hospitalised. The increase in cases is attributed to enhanced surveillance measures and heightened public awareness.

05 June: Additional infections have been confirmed, raising the total infections to 45. Two of them are hospitalised. Contact tracing is underway.

28 May: At least ten additional infections have been confirmed, raising the tally of total infections in 2025 to 19. Five individuals are hospitalised.

19 May: Health authorities confirmed additional mpox infections, bringing the total number of cases in 2025 to four. The most recent cases were reported in the Greater Accra and Western regions.

3 April: During its weekly press briefing, Africa CDC reported a new clade II mpox infection in Ghana after 11 weeks without an infection identified. Although mpox is consistently present in animals in Ghana, this individual had no recent contact with wildlife or travel history outside the country. The individual, a skin aesthetician, was likely exposed through work.

Ghana previously reported five mpox infections in 2024.
