Mpox efforts strengthened for at-risk populations

Congo DRC // 21 November, 2024

At-risk populations, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees, are at higher risk for mpox infection and severe outcomes. The World Health Organization (WHO) is collaborating with partners to provide essential health services to these groups in Congo (DRC). Efforts include training health workers, delivering medical supplies, improving vaccine infrastructure, enhancing disease surveillance and delivering targeted risk communication. Additionally, WHO is training leaders from sex worker associations and other at-risk groups to become mpox peer educators in North and South Kivu, as well as Kinshasa. Every trained peer educator is estimated to reach at least 80 people with important information on mpox prevention and vaccination.
