Moderna has announced they have submitted data to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for emergency use authorisation of their COVID-19 vaccine, Spikevax, for kids. A two-dose 50 µg series given 28 days apart is proposed for children 6 to 11 years of age. Results from their KidCOVE study reportedly found 100% vaccine efficacy at preventing COVID-19 infection at least two weeks following the second dose.
The vaccine was approved by the EMA for use in adolescents aged 12 to 17 years on 23 July. Studies in children ranging from 6 months to under 12 years continue.
