MERS-CoV genome matches Middle East gene

South Korea // 06 June, 2015

The Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a report (in Korean) on the genetic structure of MERS-CoV isolated from one of the patients from the MERS-CoV cluster. The virus' structure matched most to the MERS virus sequence prevalent in the Middle East, particularly in Hafr Al Batin, Saudi Arabia. This confirms that the index patient was infected in the Middle East.
