16 May: More than 120 new locally-acquired cases were reported yesterday by media. This represents the highest daily total since the pandemic began. All are contacts of previous cases or had links to known infection clusters, and occurred in lockdown areas and quarantine facilities in northern areas: 98 in Bac Giang province, 23 in Bac Ninh province, five in Dien Bien province and one in Hoa Binh province.
Posted 6 May: Since the beginning of March at least 120 locally acquired cases have been detected in 4 localities across the country. The areas reporting cases include: Hanoi, Da Nang and HCMC and the provinces of Ha Nam, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, Quang Nam, Dong Nai, Hai Duong, Yen Bai, Thai Binh, Bac Ninh, Lang Son and Quang Ngai. Many of the cases can be traced back to either close contact with previously confirmed cases or areas where previously confirmed cases have visited. This is a concern to authorities as previously in the last year, health authorities in Vietnam have managed to largely control the spread of COVID-19.
