Increase in public health measures following Africa CDC declaration of PHECS for mpox outbreak

Libya // 16 August, 2024

Officials from the Libyan National Centre for Disease Control have implemented a series of urgent measures at international health control offices across all land, sea, and airports, while also increasing the state of alert and preparedness across the country. This is in response to the Africa CDC announcing the current mpox outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security (PHECS) (see news here). They also heightened the alert and readiness levels ensuring that community health laboratories and emergency rooms are prepared to monitor the situation and report any suspected mpox cases to ensure everyone’s safety.
