The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control reported that in week five of 2023, the COVID-19 epidemiological situation has remained stable in the EU/EEA region. Following the spikes in transmission that occurred in December 2022, trends remained at the lowest levels in the past 12 months for “pooled rates of case notification (all-age and among those aged 65 years and above), hospital, ICU admission and COVID-19-related deaths” in the general population and long-term care facilities.
