Enhanced screening and prevention measures are currently underway in several countries in response to the Marburg outbreak declared in Ethiopia. No Marburg infections have occurred outside of Ethiopia.

Neighbouring countries are coordinating efforts to prevent cross-border transmission, with both Kenya and South Sudan increasing surveillance measures and preparedness activities.

Other nations across the region have issued advisories and strengthened surveillance in response to the outbreak:

  • Djibouti has intensified monitoring at all air, land, and rail entry points.
  • Sudan has launched health screenings and awareness campaigns at airports and informal border crossings.
  • Uganda has reinforced surveillance at border checkpoints and mobilised emergency health teams.

Beyond the region, several countries, including Angola, Chile, Ghana, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States, have issued advisories or statements on the situation, with some noting that they are implementing enhanced screening for travellers arriving from the affected area.
