A clinical trial to evaluate the antiviral tecovirimat (TPOXX) has reached phase 3 and is now recruiting children and adults with monkeypox infection. The study aims to determine if participants receiving the drug heal more quickly and if there is an impact on how painful the disease is, its progression to severe disease and its safety.
The medication is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat smallpox and has been used for the treatment of monkeypox in the current outbreak.
