COVID-19 in raccoon dogs: study

29 October, 2020

A study published in the Emerging Infectious Diseases investigated the susceptibility of raccoon dogs to SARS-CoV-2 virus. Results from the study have shown that raccoon dogs are susceptible and are able to transmit the virus to "direct in-contact animals." This indicates that farms that are affected might act as reservoirs for the virus, and therefore, there should be continuous surveillance on these animals, especially in places where they play a role in fur production.
