12 January: As cases continue to rise, Maldives has moved out of Decreasing Activity category and into Increasing Activity.
2020
23 July: More than 3,100 cases have been recorded in Maldives of which at least 676 are currently hospitalized, about 77 percent have recovered and 15 have died. An increase in number of new cases has been reported since early July.
14 July: Since further restrictions on businesses and offices started lifting on 1 July, locally acquired cases have been increasing in July – with the country moving into the ‘increasing activity’ category. A total of 2,801 cases have been confirmed, including 14 fatalities and 2,302 recoveries. Infected males (81%) continue to heavily outweigh infections in females.
Male city is currently at Risk Alert Level IV- Red with restrictions in place in several locations, while the remainder of the country is at Risk Alert Level II – yellow.
22 June: New daily cases have decreased in the Maldives since peaking in in late May-early June. A total of 2,203 cases have been confirmed, of which eight people have died and 1,803 people have recovered. Over 99% of all cases are from known clusters.
Restrictions have been easing, see the Government COVID-19 response website for the latest guidelines. The two-month long lockdown in the capital Male began to ease in mid-June; mosques, public parks and shops reopened to the public. Schools are set to begin reopening from 1 July, stating with grade nine and above on islands free of COVID-19 cases.
3 June: Cases have been increasing steadily since early May. Several clusters have been reported. Most affected are males between 20 and 40 years of age. Over 600 patients have recovered, while more than 1,200 remain hospitalised. A State of Public Health Emergency has been in place since 12 March.
17 May: Cases have been ongoing in Maldives, with over 1,000 cases reported by mid-May. A total of 1,094 cases and four deaths have been confirmed. At least 58 people have recovered. Males aged 21-50 years old make up the majority of cases (62%), with over half the cases among Bangladeshi nationals. Clusters of local transmission continue.
8 April: Ongoing cases; 19 confirmed to date. At least 13 people have recovered.
26 March: Of the 13 cases confirmed in the Maldives; eight have already recovered. A list of all the travel restrictions into the Maldives is also available at the above Ministry of Health link.
