In a letter to the editor published in the New England Journal of Medicine, scientists said that antibody levels in patients who had mild COVID-19 infections decreased dramatically in the three months following their infection. Their data, collected from just 34 patients, showed that antibody levels were cut in half about every 73 days. If that trend continued steadily, the person would be left with no antibodies in about a year. These findings may indicate that people with mild COVID-19 do not develop long-term immunity to it. This has been the suspicion for many months, with the World Health Organization addressing it in April (see news item here.)
