Birds in nearly 40 percent of the world have flu

Avian influenza is a global epizootic, or animal epidemic, as the World Organsation for Animal Health (OIE) discussed at their general assembly. Nearly 40 percent of the world's countries reported highly pathogenic flu among their birds in 2017-2018. This is the highest percentage since 2006, and highlights that there is a "massive spread" of avian influenza among animals.
