Posted 17 December: Avian flu H5N8 has been detected on a turkey farm in Lincolnshire. Over 500 turkeys at the farm have been affected, most have died and authorities will cull the remaining flock. This is the same strain being reported in other parts of Europe. Authorities have put in place a 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone to stop the disease from spreading. Health officials have reassured that the risk to public health is very low.
Updated 20 December: The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has been notified of this case.
