Assessing the efficiencies of cloth masks and improvised face coverings during COVID-19 pandemic, study

11 December, 2020

A study published in JAMA Network evaluates the filtration efficiencies of cloth masks and other improvised face coverings used by the public, as well as modified medical procedure masks used as personal protective equipment. Results have shown that the effectiveness of consumer-grade masks are "in many cases, comparable with or better than their non-N95 respirator medical mask counterparts." Also, modifications made to medical procedure masks can improve their fit and filtering capabilities, as well as reduce airborne particles being inhaled.
