Researchers in Florida, USA, have taken air samples from the room of two patients with COVID-19. The hospital room had 6 air changes per hour. Air was filtered and irradiated, with 90% being recirculated into the room. SARS-CoV-2 was found in samples collected 2 to 4.8 metres away from the patients. The virus they collected could experimentally infect cells. "These findings strengthen the notion that airborne transmission of viable SARS-CoV-2 is likely and plays a critical role in the spread of COVID-19." The study is not yet peer-reviewed.
