Mpox

The country reported the first case of mpox in July 2022.

Bird flu

H5N1 was first reported among domestic poultry in March 2007.
H5N8 was reported in birds for the first time in December 2017.

Cases were first identified in early March 2020.

MERS-CoV

Since 2012, cases have been officially confirmed from almost all regions. Most of the cases reported in other countries have been exported from Saudi Arabia. Cases have been reported in community and healthcare settings. More than 2,290 cases of MERS-CoV have been reported in the country with at least 800 deaths.

In 2020, at least 60 MERS-CoV cases have been reported in Saudi Arabia. Most were primary cases, and some were healthcare-acquired cases. More than 3/4ths of the cases in Saudi Arabia were reported in Riyadh, Asir, Eastern Province and Makkah.
