Mpox

Mpox was first detected in Oman in October 2023, with clade II identified. Clade Ib was detected in December 2024. There have been no reports of community transmission.

Bird flu

Avian influenza has not been reported in Oman in birds.

Human cases of bird flu

A human case of H9N2 was identified in mid-March 2019 in South Al Batinah Governorate.

COVID-19

The first case was reported on 24 February 2020.

Human cases have been reported sporadically since late 2013, including a cluster in Dakahlia region between January and May 2015. Cases have become infected from the environment and through human-to-human transmission.
