Mpox

The first case of mpox was confirmed in June 2023. Only a few cases have been reported since.

Bird flu

H5N1 was first detected in January 2009 in Mechi Zone. Outbreaks have been reported in wild birds and poultry since then.
H5N8 was first reported in March 2017 in backyard poultry.

Human cases of bird flu

A human case was reported in May 2019. A 21-year-old man from Kavrepalanchok district, 75 km east of Kathmandu was infected, who later died.

COVID-19

The first case was detected on 25 January 2020.
