In April 2014, the first human case was detected. The patient had no known contact with confirmed MERS-CoV cases or animals, and did not drink unpasteurised camel milk. Although the patient did travel outside Lebanon, he had not been abroad in the 14 days before the illness started which suggests the virus is circulating in Lebanon. The second case in Lebanon was confirmed in June 2017, in a traveller who had recently returned from Saudi Arabia.
