The first human cases of MERS-CoV were in 2012, with activity localised around Amman and Zarka. Many were healthcare workers, and/or contacts of known cases. Some had visited Saudi Arabia, but the source of exposure for some is unknown. Sporadic cases were reported in 2013 and 2014. In August 2015, the country's 13th case was imported from Saudi Arabia and lead to a cluster of 15 more cases in Amman, with 6 fatalities. MERS has also been detected in camels in Jordan.
