Ethiopia's first confirmed mpox case was detected in the Oromia region in May 2025.
Screening measures: Checkpoints along the Kenyan border in Oromia, Somali, and South Ethiopia are being monitored closely. The Bole International Airport has heightened surveillance measures to monitor incoming travellers from affected areas. Travellers from affected areas or anyone with mpox symptoms are encouraged to reach out to the nearest health facility or call 952 or 8335.
Bird flu has never been identified in birds or humans in Ethiopia.
Imported COVID-19 cases were first detected in mid-March 2020.
