PPE Head Cover

Head covers are part of higher level of protection (Extended PPE) required only when in contact with a suspected or confirmed case of highly infectious diseases. They are not expected to be necessary nor practical when a pandemic evolves.

Types

  • Surgical caps,

  • Clean, impermeable head cover.

The impermeable head covers are intended to protect the head and neck, skin and hair from contamination. They are advised for;

  1. All healthcare workers coming in contact with blood, vomit, diarrhoea, or other body fluids of patients,
  2. People who handle contaminated waste material such as, for Ebola virus infections - cleaners and burial team members.

Recommendations

  • Single use,

  • Preferably fluid resistant,

  • Adjustable and immovable once adjusted,

  • Facial opening constructed without elastic, reaching the upper part of the gown or coverall.
