    This year the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends the use of inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV), the ‘flu shot’, or recombinant influenza vaccine (RIV) for everyone 6 months and older. The ACIP voted against the use of live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV), or the “nasal spray” flu vaccine during the 2016-2017 flu season.

    Media sources are reporting another poultry outbreak of H5N1, this time in Ebolowa, the capital of the south region. The virus is said to have killed over 6000 birds in less than two weeks. The outbreak was detected when samples were taken from chickens at the central market of Oyenga. Two other poultry farms in Ebolowa also revealed positive results.
    Cameroon’s H5N1 outbreak began mid-May when it affected a large farm in the capital city of Yaoundé, in the Centre Region. Control measures, including disinfection and quarantine, have been implemented
